Teachers:

Mohamed Gueye:
As part of the new generation of artists coming out of Senegal today Mohamed brings a fresh energy and high level of technical expertise together with a great respect for the culture and traditions of his ancestors.
Growing up in his grandfather’s home, Mohamed became proficient in several indigenous drum styles and rhythms including the Djembe, Sawrouba, Sabar and Tama drums. Here Mohamed also learnt about the care and maintenance of drums and the history of the griots in Senegal. Together with his grandfather and father, many of Mohamed’s brothers, uncles and cousins were and still are professional drummers, forming a family heritage rich in the history and culture of West African percussion.
Mohameds vibrant teaching style is fun and energetic, ensuring students of all levels are challenged appropriately in a supportive and enjoyable learning environment.

Mass Mbaye:
Born in Dakar into a large Griot family, Mas Mbaye has been dancing Sabar since childhood. He is one of the most sought after dancers of the new generation in Dakar today and we have enjoyed working with him on our last three workshops. His choreography mixes the traditional with modern, and he is a very patient and kind teacher. Mas performs at venues and events across Senegal and has featured in many popular music videos including Waly Seck! We are really looking forward to working with him again in 2020!
